Colombo City Hotels ★★★

The hotel is very accommodation. We arrived at 10AM in the morning and they checked us in right away. Our request for a late 5PM check out was also quickly approved when I contacted them online after booking our room. They even made up our room when we went out on our check out day. Overall, the staff are all very patient, friendly and helpful. There was a dispute with the price difference which though wasn't resolved to my satisfaction, I still commend the staff for their professional attitude and patience throughout the dispute. The triple room I booked came with as a twin with a comfortable fold bed. There was both air conditioning and a ceiling fan so the room temperature was comfortable. The coffee/tea area is practical and well stocked and they top up the coffee sachets upon request which is nice. The bathroom is spacious enough and the towels were fresh. There is a water dispenser in the corridor by the lift dispensing both hot and cold water. Location is good with the WTC directly opposite and food a minute away. You can easily walk from the railway station and the Dutch Hospital is just beside the hotel and Pettah market a brisk 10 mins walk away.

Below are not complains but observations. This is more a local businessman's hotel and not so much a tourist hotel. So if you are looking for a modern swanky hotel, this is not it. The hotel lobby and general area needs to be spruced up- it looks haphazard and unwelcoming. But the rooms are decent enough.

The hotel is very close to the Colombo Fort station and there are many restaurants and cafès in the neighborhood. People are very kind and ready to help, especially Faraz at the reception will try to accomodate all your requests, always with a smile.

Very slow to check in after a long flight. Even longer to check out.

Smell coming from drains in bathroom, but the gay did come to put some fluid in the drains and advised me to keep the fan on in the bathroom

A lot of external noise from local bars (we were there on a Saturday night). Obviously not the hotel’s fault but light sleepers may be deterred.

very good location. walking distance to market, railway station and galle face green. nice restaurant Ceylon Curry Club nearby. went twice during my stay there.

The rooftop bar and restaurant was a welcome oasis and there was a choice of places in the immediate vicinity. Great location for rail travel, just 5 minutes from Fort station.

Nowhere to sit in room. Staff functional without being overly helpful, apart from the rooftop bar and restaurant who were friendly and attentive.

Clean and good location

The transfer we had book from the airport was not there. No reason or notice given. The room they first put me in was next to a bar. The music was very loud. They did move me but should have known about the noise.

Our room had the window/glass door towards the intern yard,so no possibility to let fresh air and natural light in the room. Room was a bit humid

We had a problem with our ac unit. It stated 16 degrees which was wrong. We had to put the fan on to move the air around the room. The fan was so noisy that you would think a motor was running in the room beside you. We went upstairs to the restaurant for dinner in the evening, greeted at the door and then totally ignored for the next 20 minutes. No offer of drinks in that time either. It seems all staff were busy with setting up a karaoke. When we were leaving we told the restaurant manager that we had been ignored and we were leaving. He offered to take our order but it was too late. We had decided to go elsewhere. On arriving back to the room later, all we could hear was the music from the karaoke, and when that was finished for the evening, it was just loud music. We thought it would be ok to sleep now, but alas that was not possible. The noise of scraping tables and chairs all over the floor kept us awake. When we were leaving to go shopping, we told reception again about our ac unit. When we returned there was a maintenance person in to fix the ac. We left again and went to ge5 lunch. An hour later we returned to find them still there but finishing off, then the cleaner wanted in to change the bed. We had to sit on a sofa while this was all taking place. We eventually got back into our room and the ac unit was not fixed, it still had the same problem. We would request a room move that evening. We fell asleep to be woken up with a child running around the adjoining room screaming. We requested and were given a change of room. The ac worked as it should and everything was quiet. That was until we came back to our room that evening. The karaoke was happening, swiftly followed by music, and then again followed by the scraping of tables and chairs being dragged across the floor from the restaurant. Overall the whole place is in bad decoration, the room walls are marked, there is mould in both the bathrooms we had. I could go on and on.

It is located in an area combining the modern and historic buildings. The room was a really good size with a fantastic hot shower and comfortable bed. I was well looked after here by the friendly staff.

I have no complaint with the hotel whatsoever

The staff were very friendly and helpful; especially the older gentleman working in the restaurant :)) Room itself is a decent size and clean; unfortunately we only had a fan and no aircon! Delicious breakfast and a nice rooftop chill/poool area

Located in the Fort area of Columbo, had everything I needed as it was for only one night. Good views from the top floor restaurant.

This hotel is in a great location in the Fort area which has some lovely restaurants and is close to the main station also. A good place to arrive and just land in Sri Lanka before heading off to where ever is next on your list.

Be warned about Saturday nights! Local bars play music very loud until about 2am

First of all the room has nothing to do what we saw in the photo of the hotel. When we asked to change the room and get the one we saw, they told us that all the room photos are the same. Also it was dirty and the floor was sticky!! It was very noisy with bad insulation. There was a club under the hotel with loud music. We were “obliged” to stay, because our flight arrived very late in the night! Either-wise we would leave the hotel!!!
